Vintage home finds | No. 2
Spiral patterns, folk art, and imploring you to have a not-boring waste basket.
Let’s get straight to the goods!
French ceramic lamp — $90
This baby does require rewiring and is located in France and despite all that I still think it deserves top billing in the newsletter. Tiny, delightful, and frankly unlike the myriad of other lamps I look at on a regular basis. Rewiring is surprisingly easy, so don’t let that hold you back (a demonstration here — I’ve used this kit to do it).
Hanging folk art — $48
This piece has all my kryptonite — little weird faces, a punch of red, some stripe detail. Wall art with dimension (as opposed to flat, framed pieces) is always nice to add to your mix.
Spiral dish — $21
Spiral motifs have been worming their way into my awareness recently — I can’t remember the exact thing I saw that made me think “ooh, I’m kind of into that?” but it is now jumping out at me left and right regardless. I would use this near the front door for keys or as a wine coaster on the dinner table to catch condensation (this sounds like a made-up scenario but I am genuinely speaking in recollection of the first time I used a wine coaster for its intended purpose instead of to hold spare change and was like “damn, this is actually handy”).
Spiral napkin rings, set of 4 — $30
See!? The spiral brain worm. More napkin rings to consider, or a serving utensil set to scratch that same itch.
Marquetry wood bowl — $35
When you make your friend custom house matchbooks as a gift, this is what you give them the matches in.
Strawberry toleware candlesticks — $88
I have a soft spot for toleware that defies explanation. Strawberry toleware, specifically (because if you’re going to have a twee aesthetic affliction, why not be specific about it). While I would of course have these out on display at all times, I do think the whimsical / fantastical element of them is especially nice as part of a tablescape for a meal. Go whole hog and pair with these vintage strawberry-shaped candles.
Entryway mirror and hanger — $56
Has a whiff of something the Urban Outfitters home section is going to knock off in a couple of years if they haven’t already!
Tin nicho — $29
Something I have extolled frequently on Instagram, these handmade Mexican niches. I was reminded of them last weekend at a friend’s house because they have one hanging in their entry. The shape has so much personality! They function like a shadowbox — I would put a polaroid photo in there, some dried flowers, or a matchbook from your favorite restaurant. Highly giftable, imo. Found a big boy size here, too.
Floral waste basket — $42
I personally refuse to have an ugly trash can. Sure, maybe the kitchen needs something large and utilitarian, but for my laundry room, bathroom, or office? I need a little something going on because WHY NOT?! Enter: this hand painted floral number.
Metal hand holder — $49
I love the color and graphic shape of this. It could easily be used to hold napkins or mail/papers, but I would be inclined to try propping up a book with a beautiful cover in it and using it for display. Found a blue one here!
Fun!
